The Basic Principles of a Logo Design

Being a painter or a writer is easy, they pick up their tools and craft their peices without worrying about the limitations. However, being a graphic design artist is not that easy. Unlike writers or painters we have a very limited canvas, we work for people who do not know and understand the basic rules of design and creativity, and we do all this to advertise products instead of the artwork itself.

This tough job requires us to constantly battle with out inner itch to create and the clients the demands. We also need to make sure that whatever we create gets praised by not only our client but also the clients of the client.

Many artists that I have talked about stressed on the importance of effective communication between the artist and the client. Now I also learnt that most graphic design artists can not communicate effectively with the clients they are working for. The reason being these are two different individuals with two different working backgrounds and they are working together for each other's benefit. However there are some tips that can help the designers a lot. First of all you should learn about the business of your client. For example if you are doing a logo design for a business it would be best if you research about that business, the products your client sells, their customer base, target market, and competitors. Once you start learning about your client's business you would start understanding their point of view better.

Keeping it simple is the key to better design. Specially when we are talking about a logo design it is highly recommended that abstract is the least favorite among clients. Why because an easy to understand logo design is more effective marketing than a blurry palette of colors thrown on a canvas making shapes and noise.
